New spaces and classrooms have opened at West View Elementary School as the renovation project presses closer to completion.

At the end of January, the music rooms and computer lab in the downstairs kindergarten wing off the cafeteria were finished and students are again occupying those spaces for band, orchestra and computer class.

In addition to two kindergarten classrooms in the hallway, which will be utilized beginning next school year, there is an additional classroom space that will be used for support services and as needed.

In the auditorium, two temporary classrooms built and used during earlier phases of construction have been taken down and updates including new paint and fixtures are underway there.

“It’s beginning to look like an auditorium again and we’re excited for its completion so we can once again use the space,” said Principal Jesse Simpson.

The temporary classroom in the cafeteria, used for orchestra, has also been removed, opening the space to the size it was pre-construction. New furniture for the cafeteria will be ordered and replaced this summer.

The glass block in the gymnasium will also be replaced this summer with new windows.

Construction crews are working mostly outside of normal school hours to finish the stairwells, bell tower lobby and the auditorium.

These spaces are slated to be finished in time for the Celebration of Learning on March 26.

The entire project will be completed this summer with a grand reopening scheduled for early August.
